Varinthorn Christopher

I was born on January 24 at 5:50 a.m. during the middle of a Coup d’état.
The government announced a temporary curfew the night before.
No one was allowed outside his or her residence after 10:00 p.m.
However, that night, with love and responsibility, my father drove my
mother and I through groups of big army tanks. We were arrested and
questioned. After the explanation, four tanks and six police cars escorted
my father’s mini Austin to the King Rama VI Hospital, where I was born,
a female. To mollify my father’s disappointment, my neighbor told him
it was good that he had another girl because “the boy who is born during a coup would turn out rebellious.”

My dad often dreams that one day I will become a successful international lawyer or businesswomen. I am now an MFA Student with Social Practice emphasis at Portland State University. I dream that after graduation, I will become a farmer.
