A Planting Story
“Getting ready to plant strawberries. Of course there is last years strawberry planting story. There is a tractor with a place for two people to sit. That’s behind the driver on a machine that follows the tractor as it pulls it through the field. As the machine goes down the row, it makes furrows and holes for the plants to go into. Each person has plants and places them in the hole and covers them up. Must be careful that you don’t place your plant in upside down! Yes sounds simple, however there is a person following the tractor to ensure that the plants are placed right side up. Sounds simple enough but once things get rolling; all you hear is the guy behind the equipment whistling and later shouting at you – “Hey”. After you planted the starts and walk the rows, you begin to see more root stems above the ground along with the tops of the green plants. Begin to feel silly ‘cause you wonder how that could of happened being careful and all.” I asked Mr. Bone if he ever watched “I Love Lucy”, he laughed since that is about how he and Luanne felt after that day of strawberry planting.
