Andrew Kemp
Detroit, Michigan
Interview by Cyrus Smith.
Photography by Garrett Maclean.
Andrew Kemp is a resident of East Detroit's Farnsworth Neighborhood. His current home, which he also calls a "project," is situated on what used to be five lots, four of which have since turned back into earth. An avid gardener, Andrew maintains the two vacant lots as a large garden with a fish trench, and a three bee hives. He uses the garden to feed his family. He uses the bees to pollenate his garden.
This interview, conducted via email, came about following a week long stay in Detroit by the interviewer. The photographs were taken by Garrett Maclean, a fellow Detroit resident, who lives just down the street from Andrew.
